About Me

I currently work at Blue Coat Systems, doing research on how to use expert systems and machine learning to recognize malware and other important forms of content on the Internet.

In the past, I worked at Adaptive Computing, where I helped create intelligent, policy-driven management software for HPC and cloud. The gig before that was Perfect Search — makers of the world’s fastest and most scalable search technology. Really. Google, eat your heart out. :-) Further back, I contributed to a cool web 2.0 incubator project — goEverywhere. Personal desktop in the cloud–a great idea that was cancelled during a CEO transition… Sigh. I also spent 10 years working as a developer and software architect at Symantec Corporation, where I was responsible for the Backup Exec System Recovery and Norton Ghost/Norton Save and Restore products.

I also founded and served as CEO and later CTO of Lifescape, LLC, which operated OurStory.com, a life-documenting service that combines rich media, powerful automation, and some cool 2.0 mash-up features. We sold the site in 2010.

I have an MBA from Brigham Young University‘s Marriott School, an MA in computational linguistics, and a BA in Spanish.

I am a native of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Go, Badgers! Go, Packers!
